Our great Friend Alan!

2006 - 01\28

Alan first came to HOOK-M-UP in 1992 with a friend Rod from Oregon.

Alan first came to HOOK-M-UP in 1992 with a friend Rod from Oregon.  He had been to Alaska several times trying different types of fishing adventures from rafting to halibut fishing in the ocean.  They came up during our 4th season and were the only people in camp.  They fished for coho salmon.

The wind blew and rain was horizontal like we never saw it before.  We had caught many fish for the first two days of a four day adventure and had a lot of laughs.  We even saw moose and a black bear that fell in love with Alan’s friend Rod.  The bear almost fell out of a tree on Rod while he was fishing standing in the river.  Wow great times!

On the second night it rained harder and the wind blew harder more than before.  The next morning the guides and I got up and started the first pot of coffee.  Well Alan and Rod were already up because their tent leaked and got their beds wet.  We didn’t notice because we had a hard roof overhead.  The first thing Alan said was they had to go and he sounded a little pissed off.  They decided to go back to Anchorage on the third day of their adventure.  I thought we would never see him again.

Alan and I stayed in touch over that winter.  The next spring he called and said he had some friends that would like to go fishing with us.

Alan wanted to know how hard it would be to get licensed to pilot a boat and be one of our guides.  I told him it was real doable and welcomed his help.

He has come up and guided and helped build and done whatever was needed to be done each season since then.  He has also booked many groups including family, relatives and friends.  We have caught many, many fish.

In 1996 he and his wife and youngest son drove the ALCAN Highway hauling up a boat he purchased to use during the season.  It’s become part of our fleet of boats.

Jeannie, Karrina, Caroline, the guides and I would like to sincerely thank Alan for all he has done for us both during and after the season.  I am looking to many more season with Alan.
