Alaska is a dream for most outdoor adventurists. Many people have a chance to come to this great place to visit mostly in the summer, and for some winter sports.
In 1980 I had the urge to go to Alaska to see if I could do it, with a dream to see the bush of Alaska. After a couple of years of traveling Alaska's road system and doing everything from plumbing to gold prospecting, the opportunity finally came. A job was available in a village in the bush, Aniak.
Aniak is a small village about 320 air miles from Anchorage and from any highway. I stayed through the fall and got in some fishing and some hunting. Winter came and it was the coldest and most bitter thing I ever experienced. Spring was long in coming, but it finally did. Summer brought the king salmon, chum, rainbow trout, dollies, graylings and silvers. I fell in love with this place.
I stayed when my job was finished, me Jeannie with her two daughters, Dia and Shigone. And shortly after that Karrina came along.
We have lived here for over 20 years and have loved every minute of it.
With new technology of digital cameras and computers, we're able to bring you Woody's Corner. I'll be writing stories and taking photos of our everyday life living and working on a homestead.
Oh! I forgot to tell you that we live 2 miles out of Aniak. We make our own electricity and much more.
